Unlike conventional fresh food packaging made from finite petroleum resources, Ingeo represents an ingenious new material that is made from plants, not oil, with the added benefit that it is derived entirely from annually renewable plant resources. Compared to traditional oil based plastics, Ingeo innovations significantly reduce both fossil fuel usage and greenhouse gas emissions (compared to PET for example, reducing these by 56% and 77% respectively) . Additionally, all food packaging products whether rigid, film or foam-based made from Ingeo natural plastic perform as well or better in comparison to those made from conventional oil-based plastics. Ingeo has excellent clarity, gloss and rigidity. It keeps food fresh with good aroma barrier properties and is easy to transform, shape, emboss and print. And, being a natural biopolymer, Ingeo food packaging offers the potential for more disposal and recovery options.

NatureWorks and our Ingeo food packaging partners are making responsible innovation with performance a better choice today for all. Better for the planet and so better for consumers and business too.
