Coop is the 1st italian food retail chain with supermarkets and hypermarkets supplying food and household items in all cities and town locations across Italy. Coop Italia has a continued commitment to making shopping more intelligent, respecting their customers needs in a spirit of cooperation. With this in mind, packaging and all the issues surrounding it has been a motivation for the group to adopt NatureWorks® polymer as a key constituent across a range of packaging solutions designed to lower theirs and their customers’ carbon footprint.

PRODUCTS AND PARTICIPATION

Coop in Italy is using NatureWorks® polymer for their range of ‘ready to eat’ organic salad lines as well as a range of service ware that includes disposable cups, plates, trays and clamshells. Since 2005 they have used NatureWorks® polymer for packaging especially for their ‘eco-logici Coop’ line, a family of products designed thinking of nature, as far as the selection of raw materials and the ways of distribution and disposal are concerned. They also have an organic food line called ‘bio-logici Coop’ which uses NatureWorks® packaging for the ‘ready to eat’ salad products. All these products can be easily identified by end consumers thanks also to the presence of the NatureWorks® packaging brand printed on containers.
