July 16, 2005 Ingeo™ Fiber and its Four

INGEO™ FIBER AND ITS#FOUR:
PUTTING CREATIVE AUDACITY TO THE TEST

At ITS#FOUR in Trieste on July 16 2005, everybody has something to prove: the competition organizers are committed to showcasing young talent, the competitors are committed to proving they can design eye-catching, captivating clothing, and Ingeo™ fiber is committed to showing the world the extraordinary qualities of its innovative man-made fiber.

For the second year in a row, Ingeo fiber has co-sponsored ITS#FOUR through the Ingeo Sustainability Award, inviting 21 young finalists to design Ingeo t-shirts – all made from 100% Ingeo fiber – from which a single winner was chosen and awarded the € 5,000 Ingeo Sustainability Award prize.

Although there is only one winner, Ingeo fiber and NatureWorks make a point of taking advantage of the amassed creativity expressed by all the young participants. Each young designer's t-shirt was displayed in a specially created area at the competition, allowing the public a chance to view everyone's contribution. The winners of this year's Ingeo Sustainability Award are Caroline Hansen and Mie Nielsen from Denmark, who was announced on July 16, 2005, during the main ITS#4 event.

In addition, for the second year in a row, an Ingeo fiber t-shirt has been chosen as the official shirt of the entire six-month long competition, reflecting ITS#FOUR's parallel commitment to furthering sustainable initiatives in the fashion industry. Produced by Diesel from 100% Ingeo fiber, the t-shirt is a traveling representation of the Ingeo brand. By taking this clothing on tour, Ingeo fiber allows public and professionals alike the chance to appreciate the extraordinarily creative work that can be accomplished with this material, while at the same time promoting the talents of an up-and-coming young fashion designer.

The innate performance characteristics of Ingeo fiber guarantee excellent wicking, keeping the skin dry and protected; it comes out of the washing machine almost perfectly dry and does not require ironing, all while being soft and pleasant to the touch. Clothing created with Ingeo fiber provides hands-on proof that a modern, natural material can guarantee the high performance of a synthetic without sacrificing social responsibility and respect for the environment.

Ingeo fiber is the first manmade fiber created from 100% annually renewable resources. The process used to make Ingeo fiber is based on the fermentation of simple plant sugars to create a proprietary polymer that can subsequently be spun into a fiber. It is a novel product conceived based on principles of sustainability: economic viability, social responsibility and respect for the environment. And because it is created entirely from renewable resources, Ingeo fiber helps move textiles away from their widespread dependence on oil as a prime material.

Other important awards at ITS#FOUR include the Collection of the Year (€ 20,000) given to the winner to create a new collection for the following year's competition (ITS#FIVE), was awarded to Marcus Lereng Wilmont, Danish, from The Royal College of Art; the Diesel Award, which provides the chance to design a 5-piece collection to be produced and distributed worldwide by Diesel and sold with the company's name on the label, went to Christoph Froehlich, German, a student at Hogeschool Antwerpen; the Maria Luisa Award, which provides window display & sales through the Maria Luisa boutique, was awarded to Eli Effenberger from Israel; the i-D Styling Award, which provides work experience at i-D, publication of the shoot and (€ 3,000) for expenses, was won by Marga Weimans from Netherlands ; a Special Jury Prize (€ 5,000), went to Eli Effenberger ; Ryo Yamada, from Japan, was awarded the WGSN Best Portfolio Award, which provides coverage on WGSN distributed at ITS#FOUR. These awards are chosen from among more than 700 portfolios selected from design schools all over the world. This year, participants included students from Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Holland, India, Israel, Poland, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. At ITS#FOUR, these young designers compete for prize money totaling € 40,000 Awards.
