April 10, 2006 - NatureWorks® PLA Showcases a More Responsible Plastic Serviceware Choice at 2006 National Restaurant Association Show

MINNETOKA, Minn. April 10, 2006 – Foodservice professionals will see a new side to corn when NatureWorks® PLA makes its debut at this year’s National Restaurant Association (NRA) Show (May 20-23) in Chicago, Illinois. Made using renewable resources, field corn, NatureWorks PLA offers the foodservice industry a more responsible alternative to petroleum-based plastic serviceware.

Corn-based NatureWorks PLA is used in a wide range of disposable serviceware, including cold drink cups with lids, round and square deli containers, hinged take-out containers, salad bowls and trays, as well as, plates and cutlery. Since it’s made from corn rather than crude oil, NatureWorks PLA can be composted* with food waste, offering the foodservice industry a more responsible disposal option for their customers. In addition to its many environmental benefits, NatureWorks PLA offers a strong marketing appeal with consumers.

NatureWorks PLA is already making its mark on the foodservice industry through use at festivals and events, sporting venues, colleges and universities, national parks, hospitals and quick-serve restaurants around the globe. The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, which has been serving food and drinks in serviceware made from NatureWorks PLA at its annual event since 2004; New York City’s Columbia University uses NatureWorks PLA at two of the university’s campus dining locations; NatureWorks PLA cups for cold drinks are being used during the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx WNBA games, as well as other Target Center events throughout the 2005-2006 season and by the Oakland Coliseum since May of last year.
