May 20, 2006 - UV Color's Natural and Successful Approach to Gift Giving One million

One million gift cards produced from NatureWorks® PLA

MINNETONKA, Minn. - May 20, 2006 -UV Color, Inc. (UVC) has produced more than one million gift and specialty cards made from corn-based NatureWorks® PLA. This milestone comes only six months after the company launched its line of earthsource™ cards using the nature-based resin.

In 2005, gift cards became the top holiday gift choice, and the numbers are expected to climb even higher in 20061 . Gift givers and receivers alike reportedly enjoy the ease of gift cards, especially those for restaurants, with more than 97 percent of recipients saying they would like to receive them again2.

The majority of gift and specialty cards around the globe are produced from petroleum-based plastics, like PVC. Gift cards made using renewable-resource based NatureWorks PLA offer the industry a more responsible alternative to petroleum-based cards.

"The rising price of oil and consumers' increasing environmental awareness is making responsible alternatives important for business success," said Doug Kunnemann, North America Film and Sheet Market Development Manager for NatureWorks. "We have a million reasons to believe, from retailers and brand owners, that our corn-based cards are the responsible product shoppers are looking for."

According to the Card Manufacturing Global Market Survey, the manufacturing of gift and specialty cards around the globe grew 13 percent in 2004, the last year the study was completed, and the number is expected to continue to climb during 2006.

NatureWorks PLA has the performance of traditional plastics and a more responsible environmental profile, making it a natural fit, and a viable alternative, for the growing industry. NatureWorks PLA is the world's first commercially available greenhouse-gas-neutral polymer. Unlike petroleum-based plastics, gift cards made from NatureWorks PLA can be disposed of in several manners including, physical recycling, industrial composting, incineration, chemical conversion and landfill with energy recovery where available. In addition, the production of NatureWorks PLA uses 65 percent less fossil fuel than traditional plastic.

earthsource cards are produced using a sheet of plastic made from NatureWorks PLA . The sheets can then be put through additional processes, depending on the item being manufactured and cut to size, packaged, and shipped.
