February 08, 2005 - ITS#FOUR: Ingeo™ Fiber, Fostering Creative Talent Today to Focus on Responsible Fashion for Tomorrow

Minnetonka, MN - February 08, 2005 - For the second year in a row, the Ingeo™ brand is taking a lead role in promoting responsible design in fashion, recognizing emerging young talent in the world of clothing design through its Ingeo Sustainability Award.

ITS#FOUR is the premier global design competition for students and young graduates, organized by EVE in partnership with Diesel. It gives them a free platform to express their creativity and communicate it to the world.

For Ingeo fiber, the decision to participate in ITS#FOUR was a simple one. The competition embraces values that the Ingeo brand holds dear. Educating and informing young people preparing to take part in the world of fashion and textiles choosing to use these responsible fabric options for their designs that are now available, without compromising their own creative gifts.

While the world of textiles is becoming increasingly homogenous, ITS and EVE the organizer has put together a unique team with Mini, Diesel, YKK, I-D, WGSN and Ingeo fiber whose main focus is to promote creativity. This is very important to Ingeo, a brand that has made the concept of sustainability and corporate responsibility the key to its creative heart. Ingeo fiber is the first manmade fiber created from 100% annually renewable resources. The process used to make it is based on the fermentation of simple plant sugars to create a polymer that can be spun into a fiber.

It is a unique product concept based on the three principles of sustainability - economic viability, social responsibility and respect for the environment. Because it is created from annually renewable resources, it helps move textiles away from a widespread dependence on petroleum as a prime material, so that in production, less greenhouse gasses are added to the atmosphere and consumption and disposal is highly efficient through either composting or recycling.

Ingeo fiber is more than just a smart creative idea; it is a commercial success. Although first introduced no earlier than 2003, clothing products that utilize Ingeo fiber are already available in stores worldwide, produced by companies such as Versace Sport, Bagutta, Napapijri, Salewa….

In fact, last year's Ingeo Sustainability Award was financed in part with money raised from the sale of the unique ITS#THREE iconic t-shirt, designed by the Finnish Bulgaria Magazine Team, produced by Diesel and made with 50% Ingeo fiber with cotton. Building on this initiative, for ITS#FOUR a new t-shirt, made of Ingeo fiber, will be created. The success of the ITS#THREE t-shirt was the result not only of creative design, but of the high performance characteristics naturally inherent in Ingeo fiber.

Creativity is Ingeo fiber's lifeblood, and the company created the Ingeo Sustainability Award in recognition of the themes of both creativity & sustainability. This cash prize is one of the key awards given at the ITS competition, providing the winner with both money and international recognition. Ingeo fiber is deservedly proud of the success of its products, and took last year's winning outfits by Yamagata Yoshikazu on tour across the world, exhibiting them at conventions, fairs and press workshops. It was an opportunity to give both public and professionals alike the chance to appreciate the extraordinarily creative things that can be done with this material, as well as to promote a talented new fashion designer.

Steve Davies, Director of Apparel Business Development for the Ingeo fiber brand, notes that “this award is a perfect opportunity for Ingeo fiber to help shape a more responsible future by helping the talented young men and women who are the clothing designers of tomorrow. We're proud to be able to say that we were among the first to recognize their gifts.”

Note to editors:

Ingeo represents a new brand concept based on the principles of sustainability – economic viability, social responsibility and environmental soundness. Ingeo is the world's first manmade fiber derived from 100% annually renewable resources.

The process to make Ingeo fiber is based on the fermentation of simple plant sugars to create a proprietary polymer that can then be spun into a fibre. Ingeo fiber is ideally suited for a range of textile products and applications where it competes with traditional fibers on a price and performance basis.
