May 31, 2006 - Ingeo™ Fiber in Venice: Past, Present and Future
Second annual Ingeo™ Earth Month closes with Venice event and an emphasis on Art with the support of Coldiretti and Consorzio Italia Pulita
Venice, Italy - May 31, 2006 - Venice was a natural location choice to host the closing ceremonies of Ingeo™ fiber's second annual Earth Month celebration, an event organized to promote greater awareness for responsible, sustainable innovation opportunities available to our modern society. After all, the international textile trade was practically invented in Venice. By the end of the 12th century, Venice was the most important port in the world, its merchant ships facilitating international trade for Chinese silk, European wool and linen textiles, glass, coral and more to ports across the known world. The city remained a beacon of light throughout the Dark Ages, and helped usher a struggling Europe into the Renaissance era. Now, at a time when the world of textiles once again stands poised on the cusp between outdated and unsustainable textile production methods (petroleum-based textiles) and new, eco-friendly opportunities (sustainable textile production from annually-renewable resources), it seems only fitting that Ingeo™ fiber should choose Venice to host its finale from among the many cities where it has organized Ingeo™ Earth Month activities over the course of the past six weeks.
On May 31st, Ingeo™ fiber will team up with Coldiretti and Consorzio Italia Pulita (Clean Italy Consortium) to create an event in the "Venice Cube," a location provided by the Venice municipality specifically for this event with the help of funding from the European Union. A press conference will be held here in the late afternoon, followed by a cocktail service at which invited members will be able to visit a Creative Gallery where examples of products made from Ingeo™ fiber from apparel, hometextile, personal care products to NatureWorks® PLA for packaging sectors, will be on display. All the products in the gallery have been created according to the same philosophy, and provide hands-on proof of the extraordinary range and versatility this sustainable textile offers. Furthermore, three of the outfits made with fabrics realized with Ingeo™ fiber on display have been created specifically for this event by clothing designer Franco Francesca (winner of Milan Fashion Week's first "Fashion Limoni" award), reproducing artwork by the well-known Venetian artist Lucio Andrich. The outfits, shown for the first time, which result from this blend of modern sartorial skill and established artistic talent, help to communicate Ingeo™ fiber's broader message of creativity and innovation through new , more responsible materials. Furthermore, this blend of technical innovation and Art is a truly fitting homage to "La Serenissima" (Venice's poetic namesake). In combining these two elements through this event, Ingeo™ fiber is echoing a sentiment close to Venice's heart: a belief in a shared common future obtainable in part through Art. During Ingeo™ Earth Month 2005, music and youth culture were the initiative's motivating factors. This year, Art serves as the beacon, helping set public and professionals alike on the path towards a more sustainable way of living for everyone.
