Life Cycle Analysis

NatureWorks LLC’s primary tool for measuring the sustainability of our products and operations is through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Recognized as an international standard-setting process via ISO 14040, LCA involves the compilation of a comprehensive inventory (Life Cycle Inventory, or LCI) of relevant inputs (eg. water, tractor fuel, plants) and outputs (Ingeo biopolymer, greenhouse gases) of a production system.

Recognizing that increased transparency is inherent in progress toward sustainability, NatureWorks LLC has participated in multiple life cycle analyses on finished goods made with Ingeo biopolymer (eg. cups & containers). These studies have been conducted by independent 3rd parties to provide an accurate, un-biased comparison of the environmental impacts of Ingeo products compared to traditional ones.
