Sommer Needlepunch Co, debuts its new, vibrant Ingeo innovation

HANOVER, Germany, January 12, 2008 – Sommer Needlepunch and NatureWorks LLC are pleased to present their latest innovation Ecopunch, a new eco-carpet made of Ingeo fiber at Domotex 2008 - the most complete of floor covering trade shows.

Ecopunch, made with Ingeo fiber, is a 75% biobased product. This new development provides a revolutionary environmental benefit, especially in the event business where the life cycle of a carpet is limited to a few days, at the most a few weeks, Ecopunch, needle punched flooring solutions for events and domestic applications, is produced in France and will be distributed throughout Europe and with select partners in the rest of the world.

The Ingeo fiber used in making Ecopunch carpet is the first man-made fiber made from a 100% annually renewable resource, not oil. Conventional needle punched carpets use the world’s finite oil reserves as their source material. Ingeo, representing ‘ingredients from the Earth’, is a nature-based fiber made from NatureWorks biopolymer, derived from plant sugars, and is the world’s first polymer that demonstrates a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

“We always choose the most natural of materials. Our environmental engagement is not limited to the post life-cycle of our products. Developing recycling programs is not enough. Sommer Needlepunch engages itself not just to solve problems but to create solutions. With this in mind, our first objective is to produce our products in an environmentally sound way. With NatureWorks LLC, we found a reliable partner providing us with the answer we were searching for. By using Ingeo fiber, we reduce our own and our customer’s carbon footprint. Finally nature goes with glamour,” stated Kris De Saedeleir, Sales & Marketing Director of Sommer Needlepunch.

The Ecopunch collection is offered in 2 finishes, flat and velour, and is available in 13 vibrant colors. Ecopunch meets the general applied requirements for trade show flooring and offers the same performance as conventional oil-based flooring products.

This product demonstrates the reality of Ingeo innovations in the world today, where the brand now meets the growing market demand for better consumer lifestyle products. Today you can now find a whole new generation of Ingeo fiber and even natural plastic lifestyle products on shelves in more than 20 application assortments from at least 100 commercial partners, selling in more than 70,000 retail outlets worldwide.

The new business development that comes from this invention brings a new meaning of how to do business differently today by making contemporary goods with a natural origin, bringing performance without compromise and making products that have a powerful environmental message to the consumer looking for better choices.
