ZEN-NOH and NatureWorks advocate for sustainable packaging at Private Label Suppliers Show 2010

On display, innovative Ingeo™ fresh-food packaging made from plants, not oil

TOKYO, June 10, 2010 – ZEN-NOH, the agricultural and livestock products marketing and production materials supply business of the JA Group, and NatureWorks, the world leading manufacturer of Ingeo, the plastic made from plants, not oil, have developed an exhibit for the Private Label Suppliers Show 2010, June 16-18, which is devoted to exploring the social, environmental, and business advantages of fresh-food packaging made from renewable resources.

On display at the booth will be the latest in ZEN-NOH’s clear, performance Ingeo packaging for strawberries, mini- and midi-size tomatoes, and more. In addition to the clamshell and other packaging on display, there will be information documenting the environmental advantages of Ingeo bioplastic from NatureWorks:

  • 59 percent less green house gas (GHG) emissions than comparable quantities of PET
  • 47 percent less non-renewable energy consumed than comparable quantities of PET

"Since 1972, ZEN-NOH’s mission has been to supply safe and secure domestic agricultural and livestock products to consumers and that role becomes more important over time," said ZEN-NOH.  "Joining ZEN-NOH’s food safety and security priorities is the important priority of protecting the environment by lowering the carbon footprint of products — and through these actions helping to contribute to greater sustainability. ZEN-NOH believes the exhibit at the Private Label Suppliers Show is an important opportunity to weigh with retailers how new developments in packaging contribute to both sustainability and earning the respect of environmentally committed customers."

"We are proud to partner with ZEN-NOH at the Private Label Suppliers Show because it gives both our companies the opportunity to meet with many leading retailers and discuss their sustainability initiatives and how we can support them in the achievement of their goals," said Peter Clydesdale, chief marketing officer, NatureWorks.  "Sustainability gains happen most quickly and effectively when committed suppliers such as ZEN-NOH and NatureWorks collaborate with retailers to develop solutions to long-term environmental, social, and business issues."
