Ingeo at Rapid + TCT 2021

👆🏼 3DXTech - New Ingeo-based and antibacterial SimuBone™ used for anatomical bone modeling in both educational and clinical settings as well as patient-specific preoperative surgical planning. Also, we loved learning about their impressive 3DXSTAT™ electrostatic dissipative PLA, which is an advanced ESD-safe compound for critical applications that require electrostatic discharge protection.
👇🏾 Polymaker - Longtime partners, Polymaker, showed off their latest PolyTerra™ PLA with a focus on education, performance, and sustainability. Not only is PolyTerra made from Ingeo, so the material chosen is made from greenhouse gases, but Polymaker also plants one tree through ONETREEPLANTED association for each order - so far 68,472+ trees have been planted through this effort.

Because Good Tastes Better

Now we can take the sacrifice out of sustainability with ultrasonic welding for compostable coffee pods with Ingeo. Our partners at Emerson use ultrasonic welding to seal the lid and flexible, nonwoven filter in coffee capsules to the rigid capsule exterior with easily tunable, high-frequency vibrations. This clean sealing technology not only allows Ingeo to stay below its melting point during manufacturing, but also creates an oxygen barrier without the need for secondary packaging, which preserves the important taste and aroma of the coffee inside. Emerson showed off their ultrasonic welding techniques with Ingeo at the recent PACK EXPO in Las Vegas. Read more.
Bioplastics Week 2021

This year’s annual Bioplastics Week, hosted via social media by Plastics Industry Association, was celebrated September 13 - 17th and saw educational posts about bioplastics made online all week by accounts such as NatureWorks, European Bioplastics, Novamont, the European Commission, Plant Based Products Council, and more. To see all of the posts, search the hashtag: #BioplasticsWeek.
Plastics Industry Association, along with insight from other collaborators, developed this helpful Resource List reference for the week’s celebration.
The video below stood out to us as a great explanation of how certified bioplastics break down in industrial compost. Check out “Where does our waste go?” to see what happens AFTER students at Georgia Tech use their recycling and compost programs.
IoPP Golf Tournament

We recently showed off our golfing chops at the semi-annual Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) Minnesota Chapter Golf Tournament. This year, NatureWorks’ Senior Manager of Global Marketing & Communications, Leah M. Ford, and Applications Development Engineer AND IOPP grad, Andrea Auchter, played through the tournament. In addition to hitting the course, NatureWorks also sponsored the event, which has an end goal of generating scholarships for packaging students. Read More.
